Fan noise problem

Hello HP Support and Community,

I own an HP 17-cp0308nf laptop with an AMD Ryzen processor.

I am experiencing an issue where the cooling fan runs frequently and becomes quite loud, even during light tasks such as web browsing or watching videos. The CPU temperature also seems higher than expected during normal use
When I try to turn it on, the fan runs full power and makes a lot of noise, sometimes even while browsing or watching videos, even though the temperature doesn't exceed 60 degrees Celsius and the noise is very loud.

I have already:

• Updated Windows.

• Installed the latest AMD chipset and graphics drivers.

• Updated the BIOS to the latest available version.

• Checked for background applications.

• Used the HP recommended power settings.

  

Unfortunately, the issue still persists.

I would like to know if this is a known issue with this model or if HP has any recommended solution. Is there a BIOS setting, firmware update, or HP utility that can improve the fan behavior and reduce CPU temperatures?

Hi @aminemohdz19 

I can only recommend that you update your graphics drivers; these are usually the cause of system processes keeping the fans running constantly even when the temperature is not high. At 60 degrees, the fans shouldn't be running at full speed, but they should still be active.

The Power Manager program is designed exclusively for laptops in the business line; it cannot be used on other laptops.

I have already updated my AMD graphics driver to the latest available version (released on May 20, 2026) so unfortunately the issue still persists

Even after updating the graphics driver, the cooling fan continues to run frequently during light tasks, and the fan noise is still louder than I would expect now the fan becomes very loud even when the CPU temperature is only around 55°C. It sounds like it is running at almost full speed  even though the laptop itself does not feel hot to the touch

I have also disabled "Fan Always On" in the BIOS, but it did not make any difference the fan continues to run almost constantly even during light tasks such as web browsing or watching videos

Go to Windows Settings, select Power Options, and choose “Balanced” or “Most Efficient.”

Regarding the AMD graphics card, it's recommended to use the HP versions rather than the manufacturer's, because they've been modified.

In my case, I have an NVIDIA card, and if I update the drivers from the NVIDIA website, the fans run constantly; if I use the HP driver, everything goes back to normal.

I have already tried using the HP-recommended power settings (Balanced / Best Power Efficiency), and I have also tested the HP graphics driver instead of the AMD driver.

Unfortunately, the behavior is exactly the same.

The fan still runs almost continuously and becomes very loud even when the CPU temperature is only around 51°C. The laptop itself does not feel hot, and I have already disabled Fan Always On in the BIOS but it made no difference.

At this point I am wondering if this is the normal fan behavior for the HP 17-cp0308nf

Check Task Manager to see which process is using the most CPU

I checked Task Manager, and there is no process using a high amount of  CPU usage is very low.

Right now the CPU temperature is around 48°C but the fan is still running with a noticeable medium noise even though the laptop is not under any heavy load

Run the following commands by opening CMD as an administrator

sfc /scannow
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

A new issue has arisen: the device suddenly displays "HDD" instead of "NVMe SSD" in Task Manager after I updated Windows to the latest version. There are several problems with this device, and I would appreciate it if you could fix them + There is nothing significant to report regarding the fan; it keeps spinning at maximum speed at this level
