HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f1000 (508S1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The Privacy Shutter will activate entirely on its own when I start up my laptop.  Not always - the bug is intermittent.  Is HP aware of this and is there a patch available?

Hi @DoctorQ9

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The intermittent activation of the Privacy Shutter on your HP Spectre x360 16-inch 2-in-1 Laptop could be due to software settings or driver issues. While there might not be a specific patch available for this issue, here are some steps you can follow to address it:

Troubleshooting Privacy Shutter Activation

Update Drivers and Software:

  • Ensure that your camera drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for your specific model.
  • Additionally, make sure Windows 11 is up-to-date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Run HP Support Assistant to check for updates related to firmware or software features that could affect the Privacy Shutter functionality.
  • Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu and search for updates.

GlamCam Settings:

  • Check the settings in HP Command Center's GlamCam application. Features such as Walk-away Lock, Wake on Approach, or Privacy Alert could be influencing Privacy Shutter behavior.
  • Adjust settings related to the camera to limit automatic activation.

Remove Conflicting Software:

  • Review any third-party software that might interfere with camera settings, such as video conferencing applications, and check their configurations.
  • Temporarily disable or uninstall programs that might affect camera sleep or privacy features.

Check for BIOS Update:

  • Verify if there is a BIOS update available for your model, as this can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Check for BIOS updates on the HP Support website using your laptop's model number.

Camera Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and review the privacy settings. Ensure that applications are not making unauthorized changes to the camera's state.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to HP Support for further assistance. They may have additional insights or updates regarding your specific problem.
