so I have an HP computer and I have tried several times, pressing the button manually to even wake up my computer. I’ve pressed Random keys on the keyboard. I pressed the mouse. There is nothing working. What do I do? I’m getting fed up with this I just have to get a new motherboard installed to mine because of the same issue. Why does this keep happening? I don’t understand. How do I turn on my computer? I’m getting fed up. This is a work computer

Hi @AnthonyNorm,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your Computer won't wake up, and you’ve already had a motherboard replaced for similar symptoms.

Below are the key steps, based on HP’s own guidance and tools.

1. Try a hard power reset:

Shut everything off:

  • Press and hold the PC’s power button for 10–15 seconds to force it off.

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the desktop and from the wall/strip.

Drain residual power:

  • Wait 30–60 seconds with the cord disconnected.

  • If it’s a desktop with a removable side panel, do not open it yet—this step alone sometimes clears a “frozen” power state.

Reconnect and power on:

  • Plug the power cord back directly into a wall outlet, bypassing any surge protector/UPS for testing.

  • Press the power button once (short press, not long).

    2. Permanent Fixes for Sleep Issues:

  • Disable Fast Startup: This Windows feature often interferes with the wake-up sequence. Go to the Control Panel, search for Power Options, click Choose what the power buttons do, and uncheck Turn on fast startup.

  • Allow Keyboard and Mouse to Wake PC: Sometimes your peripherals are not authorised to wake the machine. Search for and open the Device Manager. Expand Keyboards and Mice, double-click your devices, go to the Power Management tab, and check Allow this device to wake the computer.

  • Update HP/Graphics Drivers: Go to the Official HP® Support to install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
