New laptop: HP Omnibook 7 Flip.  Do I need to charge the laptop for 24 hours before I power it on and commence setup? If not, what is the proper procedure to initially charge the battery and start the setup?

Hi @Jean0390,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’ve got a brand-new HP Omnibook 7 Flip, and you’d like to know the correct way to charge it before the first use. Let’s go over the proper steps to get the device powered on and set up.

You do NOT need to charge it for 24 hours. Modern HP laptops come partially charged and are designed to be used right away.

Here are the recommended steps:

1. Unbox and connect the power adapter

Plug the charger into the laptop and the wall socket.

This ensures the device has continuous power during initial setup and updates.

2. Power on the laptop

Press the Power button to start the device.

Setup will begin even if the battery isn’t full — completely normal.

3. Complete Windows/macOS setup

Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your region, Wi-Fi, and HP/Windows account.

Keeping it plugged in prevents interruptions during updates.

4. Let the battery reach 100% once

After setup is done, allow the battery to charge fully one time.

This helps battery calibration and ensures accurate charge readings.

5. Use normally

You can keep the laptop plugged in or run on battery; both are perfectly safe.

No need for long initial charges — modern HP batteries are lithium-ion and don’t require priming.

I hope this helps.
