Hello i have a HP pavillion 15-cc050cw laptop and it's not starting up. I've tried replacing battery (exact one) and discharging the laptop holding the power button. Checked both of the chargers i have and they both work and are giving out 19.5V. I don't think there is a cmos battery on here so I'm not sure what's going on with it. Just had it on yesterday. No lights or anything. Also tried with battery but and just the charger plugged in. Still nothing. Does any body have any other ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi @Mwright745,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion 15 laptop has no lights, no power, and you've already tried replacing the battery, discharging the laptop, and verified the charger is working, here are a few more steps to consider.
Reset Internal Components
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Disconnect the charger.
- Hold the power button for 60 seconds to fully discharge any residual power.
- Plug in the charger (without the battery) and try turning it on.
Inspect the Power Port
- Check the laptop’s charging port for any damage or looseness. If the port is damaged, it might not be transferring power properly.
Check for Static or Shorts
- Plug the charger into a different wall outlet.
- Use a grounded outlet to rule out electrical issues.
Test with an External Monitor
If there are no signs of power, this step might not be relevant, but connecting the laptop to an external monitor can rule out display issues if it starts showing life.
Inspect the Motherboard
If you're comfortable opening the laptop:
- Look for any burnt components, bulging capacitors, or loose connections, particularly around the power connector.
- Ensure the ribbon cables for the power button are securely connected.
- Check for signs of water damage.
Keyboard Power Key Test
Some HP laptops allow power-up using a key combination (e.g., Win + B or Win + Ctrl + B while pressing the power button). Try these combinations while holding the power button.

Check RAM Modules
- Remove the RAM sticks, clean the connectors, and reseat them.
- If there are two RAM sticks, try booting with one at a time.
BIOS Recovery
Even though the laptop doesn’t power up, some HP models support BIOS recovery:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Hold Win + B and press the power button for 1–2 seconds, then release the power button while continuing to hold Win + B.
- If successful, this will trigger a BIOS recovery process.
Internal CMOS Battery
While you mentioned not finding a CMOS battery, it’s worth rechecking. A dead CMOS battery can sometimes cause boot failures. If present, replace it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Ok i checked everything on the list send. What it ended up being was the motherboard. Took everything apart and found a burned section of the board. Looks like maybe water damage. I appreciate the responses and thanks
