Hello, so I purchased the OMEN 25 L about 6 years ago. I just upgraded the RAM because the old RAM was dying on me and also didn’t offer an overclocking feature. I have made numerous attempts to overclock these 32 GB 3600 Hz ram sticks but nothing has been successful. HP advertised this desktop as being capable of RAM speeds up to 2933 Hz and yet it can never exceed 2133. I feel I have been scammed unless someone can help me overclock this. Thank you.

use 1600, then the memory bus drops to 1446 because it can never exceed the CPU frequency.

Hi @Squuxy

You must indicate the model of the complete PC, I suspect that a 6 years old model does not have BIOS compatible with XMP memories and Overclocking support.

Remember that no memory can go with a higher frequency than the processor supports.

“OMEN Desktop PC 25L GT12-0000i” it has an intel i7 10700 which should support speeds of 2933. Also it does have BIOS overclocking when I put in the new RAM and has XMP profiles but they are all set to 1067 and when I do custom there is no frequency that allows me to boot up.

you can not put a 3600 ram the processor supports only 2933 ram, and when you use a XMP memory you must check if it has JEDEC 2933 frequency because putting a 3600 memory without JEDEC 2933 will surely take the standard 2133 frequency.

Shouldn’t I be able to still downclock the RAM to 2933 though to maximize performance. Also how do I check JEDEC of the XMP? Whenever I click on an XMP profile it has set values that are unchangeable.

HP Recommended

You should ask the memory manufacturer which model of memory you purchased (its number and manufacturer). You must buy DDR4-3200 memory if you want a 2933 profile.

I will ask them but i am just confused as to why you need 3200 for a 2933 profile when 3600 should be able to downclock to that same profile. The RAM that came with the previous pc was 2933 and yet couldn’t exceed 2133

You can make a screen capture of the BIOS where the XMP values are...,

I have this image already saved for when I was trying to change the frequency. Is this what you wanted to see?

HP Recommended

Change to Custom Profile, Use speccy if you do not know the 2933 (1466 x2) frequency values.
