OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i (83N30AV)

I'm requesting help getting my Intel 13th/14th Gen processor issue handled under HP's published advisory, after being unable to get resolution through phone/chat support.

System: OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i (83N30AV)
Processor: Intel Core i9-14900K

Issue:
Recurring segmentation faults, floating point exceptions, and address errors — consistent with the computational/addressing corruption described in Intel's own root-cause explanation of the Vmin Shift Instability issue (elevated voltage causing clock duty-cycle shifts that produce incorrect calculations/addressing at the hardware level), not generic application instability.

Standard system warranty:
Expired (~335 days ago as of this posting)

I confirmed the current microcode is fully patched (0x133, well past the 0x12B fix), and I'm updating the BIOS as well. Crashes persist regardless.

Per HP's own support document ish_11349067-11349049-16, HP states it will honor Intel's warranty extension for affected 13th/14th Gen desktop processors exhibiting instability symptoms, providing coverage for the processor for up to 5 years from date of purchase — separate from the standard system warranty.

Per Intel's own guidance, customers with OEM/prebuilt systems (like this one) are directed to contact the system manufacturer, not Intel directly, for this issue — meaning there is no separate warranty for me to purchase from Intel in the first place, since Intel's extended-warranty program applies to boxed/retail CPUs, not processors sold inside an OEM prebuilt system.

When I contacted HP support, I was told I would first need to purchase an extended warranty from Intel to be eligible. I was then redirected to "Smart Friend" paid support, which quoted $325 to replace the processor.

This doesn't match either company's published guidance: Intel directs OEM customers to the manufacturer, and HP's own document doesn't mention any prerequisite purchase from Intel or HP.

Could someone from HP confirm how to get this routed to the correct team handling this specific advisory? Happy to provide serial number/case number via private message as needed.

Thank you.

@ruta_engineer,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Based on what you've described, it appears you've already ruled out the common software causes by updating to the latest BIOS and Intel microcode, yet the instability (segmentation faults, floating point exceptions, and address errors) persists.

HP's published advisory states that eligible Intel 13th/14th Gen desktop processors affected by this issue are indeed covered for up to 5 years from the original purchase date, independent of the system's standard warranty. Intel likewise directs owners of OEM systems to work with the system manufacturer rather than Intel.

Given that, the advice you received to purchase an Intel extended warranty or pay for a CPU replacement through Smart Friend does not appear to align with the published guidance. (Mind you, I formulated this very politely -but I digress.)

Anyway, I have flagged your query to an HP Moderator to have them review your case and, if appropriate, escalate it to the team handling Intel's 13th/14th Gen processor instability program. Be prepared to provide your serial number and any previous HP case numbers via private message if requested. I hope HP can help get this resolved.

Kind Regards,

Thank you @NonSequitur777, you're godsent to the HP community. I'll be on the lookout for the Moderator's message.

Can't believe I wasted 4 hours between me and my colleague trying to explain 6 different people about the extended warranty. At this point, the support infrastructure of HP feels like an intentional ruse to get you to buy their paid subscription.

Hi @Hawks_Eye,

It seems like the private message tab is missing from my profile. The message icon as highlighted in this thread seems to be missing. How can I fix this?
