My UEFI diagnostics report as out of date. I downloaded the updated UEFI Diagnostic, and ran the sp153480.exe file. However, I don't know how to update the diagnostic with the new files. What is the process?

I believe that I had done all that without success. Subsequently, I got AI advice that sp165721.exe was the latest update to version 10.8.3.0. That one ran correctly and installed by itself without incident.  Thank you for your help.

Hi @RogerK3,

I understand your HP system reports that UEFI Diagnostics are out of date, and you’ve downloaded and run the updated UEFI Diagnostics file (sp153480.exe). Let’s go through how the update process works and how to confirm it completed correctly.

Understand how the UEFI Diagnostics update works

The UEFI Diagnostics tool is stored on a hidden system partition, not inside Windows.

Running the sp153480.exe file copies the new diagnostic files to that partition automatically.

There is no separate “install” screen inside UEFI itself.

Run the update correctly in Windows

Make sure you ran sp153480.exe while logged into Windows as an administrator.

Allow the installer to complete fully without interruption.

If it finished without errors, the diagnostics were updated.

Restart the computer

Restarting is required for the system firmware to reference the updated diagnostics files.

Do not use Sleep or Fast Startup for this step.

Verify the update in UEFI Diagnostics

Power on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly.

Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).

Check the version number or date shown on the main diagnostics screen.

Compare it with the version listed on the HP download page for sp153480.

If it still shows “out of date”

Run the sp153480.exe file again in Windows.

Ensure the installation completes and does not exit early.

Restart and recheck in UEFI using Esc > F2.

I hope this helps.
