Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

YouCam suddenly appeared on my computer. I didn't request it or install it. It's really messing up my computer functioning. How can I uninstall it and block any further unwanted programs being downloaded to my computer? Help help. Thank you.

@CWBriggs, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If YouCam (or similar bloatware) appeared on your HP notebook without your consent and is affecting system performance, here’s how you can uninstall it and prevent similar issues in the future:

Step 1: Uninstall YouCam

Windows 10 / 11:

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features).
  3. Scroll down to find YouCam.
  4. Click on it and select Uninstall.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete uninstallation.

Step 2: Disable from Startup (if uninstall fails)

If YouCam keeps running even after uninstalling:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Startup tab.
  3. Right-click YouCam (or anything suspicious) > click Disable.

Step 3: Stop Unwanted Software from Auto-Installing

Check for Pre-installed HP Software:

  • Open the HP Support Assistant.
  • Disable any “App updates” or “Recommended software” installations.

Turn Off Microsoft Store App Suggestions:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Advanced app settings (or “Optional features”).
  • Turn off options like “Show me app suggestions”.

Use Windows Security / Defender:

  • Go to Windows Security > App & browser control.
  • Turn on Reputation-based protection and enable all settings.

Install a Good Anti-Malware Tool:

Even if it’s not malware, a lightweight tool like Malwarebytes Free can help identify and block unwanted programs.

Bonus: Disable Automatic Driver & App Downloads (Optional)

  1. Open Control Panel > System and Security > System.
  2. Click Advanced system settings > go to Hardware tab > click Device Installation Settings.
  3. Select No (your device might not work as expected, but it blocks auto installs).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
