Hi @Raj5371,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot. Here’s what I see:

  • Your mobile is connected to “The Imperial Hostel GF-5G”, which is a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Other networks listed include Airtel_Imperial first flour (2.4/5 GHz) and The Imperial Boys Hostel-1F.
  • The issue: Your HP laptop cannot see the same Wi-Fi network that your phone is connected to.

Why This Happens

Most HP laptops (especially older models or those with entry-level Wi-Fi cards) do not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. If your laptop only supports 2.4 GHz, it will never detect a 5 GHz network like “The Imperial Hostel GF-5G.”

How to Check Your Laptop’s Wi-Fi Capability

  1. On your HP laptop, press Windows + R, type: cmd

and hit Enter.

  1. In Command Prompt, type: netsh wlan show drivers
  2. Look for: Radio types supported
    • If it says 802.11b/g/n, your laptop supports only 2.4 GHz.
    • If it says 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, it supports 5 GHz.

Solutions

  • Option 1: Connect to a 2.4 GHz Network
    • Your router likely has a 2.4 GHz SSID (e.g., “Airtel_Imperial first flour”).
    • Connect your laptop to that network instead.

  • Option 2: Enable Dual-Band or Rename SSIDs
    • If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, separate them and connect to the 2.4 GHz band.

  • Option 3: Upgrade Wi-Fi Adapter
    • If your laptop only supports 2.4 GHz, you can buy a USB Wi-Fi adapter that supports 5 GHz (802.11ac).
    • They are inexpensive and easy to install.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
