You might mention you have a lot of photos of the problem and state something like "I fly frequently and was lucky it did not happen while in the plane" and see if you can get it repaired. This worked for me and I got a new battery in my out-of-warranty Surface Pro 4, but the SP4 had a known history of overheating.
