@Jergus1
What is the status of your efforts?
Have you found out anything yet?

Hi, we use HP EliteBook 830 G5 in our company.
We have upgraded 4 computers to the latest version (01.28.00) of the bios and every time we reboot it ends with the message - This BIOS is not for production use....

Another try.
Choosing windows 10 as OS installed of the installed windows 11.
Then there are much older Bios versions available.
I took the 1.00
Booting into bios trying to update via usb strick from there.
Now there are different messages:
Would downgrading to windows 10 (or removing the SSD) help?

That looks like a Windows system policy setting. It is managed, as in enabled or disabled in the Group Policy editor.
The Group Policy Editor is generally only accessible in Windows 10 or11 Pro or Enterprise and requires an Admin credentialed user.
Is your laptop a personal one or is it owned by the company you work for?
Is it usually managed by an IT department or a designated IT person?

I bought the computer second-hand.
But back to the Windows Bios update.
I searched the computer and found the BIN file that was used by the Windows update. It is identical (file compare) to the file I downloaded directly from the HP site.
This supports the thesis that the firmware update Q78_017800.bin from HP is the problem and has nothing to do with the detour via the Windows update.#

I experience a similar problem with my elitebook 840 G5.
Windows update broke the bios.
It now says `Warning: This bios is not intended for production use' on every boot.
I tried updating the bios from the bios directly (network update). But it did not work likely because it can not get the current version. My current version is `00.00.00` (hence probably a debugging version which is not intended for production use.
I also attempted to udpate from a usb stick, but that just gave me an error, that I did not get the correct bios image.
Did you find a solution for the problem?
If someone from HP reads this. Please provide a solution.

My contact with the HP Service has ended after several aptempts via telefone and remote control with offering me a hardware repair with unprdictable costs for me.
My hp service man, it was always the same one, was in my opinion not really familiar with the problem. I also didn't have the impression that our error, which is already several years old, was stored in any database for support purposes.

I also saw your `warning` post. Came to late for me unfortunately.

Hi!
Me too. Same issue. Did the Bios update 01.28.00 Rev.A through the HP Support assistant on an Elitebook 840 G5 and after that I get the same error message at startup that the "BIOS is not for production use" and when I try to go back to a previous one, look for updates in the BIOS or reinstall the BIOS from the Support site I get the Invalid BIOS-Image error during the installation. I tried creating a USB flash media but that doesn't work either. According to the HP System Infomation the BIOS installed on my laptop is now the version 00.00.00.00
Windows 10 still works on the computer, but I'm not happy with this state and would also appreciate a solution from HP.
