HP 250 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a good number of these brand new laptops to setup and have noticed so far two out of four of these models exhibit the same behaviour.

They have the intel HD Graphocs 620 chip.

I have updated the drivers and changed the power settings (including fsat boot) but no change.

On boot up I have to wait 6 1/2 mins before explorer kicks in and I the desktop. I can see the mouse cursor and can bring up task manager but explorer stop/restart doesnt refresh the display at all.

Initailly they were all fine - points to a windows update but other couple of laptops have the same updates installed so far and seem fine. Really puzzled!

Thinking of sending 20 units back rather than mess around with this.

Anyone else seen this?

At last. The actual solution....a patch has been released that resolves this

If you have not screwed around with the App Readiness settings then just run this file:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe

or...

If you have previously disabled App Readiness

  1. In the run box type "msconfig".

  2. Go to the Services tab and enable App Readiness.

  3. Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
  4. Reboot PC

All done 🙂

BOOM - there goes another one!

Almost certainly a windows update issue.

This needs to be quickly addressed.

Have waisted time doing a system restore and everything works again until one of the following updates throws the start up out ...either..

(KB4034674) Cumulate update for windows 10

(KB4034662) Security update for Adobe flash

or

(KB4022405) Update for windows 10

Answers on a postcard...

Hello @ASSITIVE

Thank you for posting.

The problem you see is probably caused due to the Windows update that has been applied

A possible resolution would be to perform "System Restore" and revert back to a known-good state.

After restoring and if you are back in business:

- pause Windows Updates temporary to prevent it from re-downloading this "faulty" update >> http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-pause-windows-update-download-in-windows-10/

- block the latest updates using this Microsoft tool >> http://www.thewindowsclub.com/block-unwanted-windows-updates-in-windows-10

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

I have seen this issue with other users also reporting it. Please, note that this is not directly an HP issue but may be caused by Microsoft and the way Windows 10 works by automatically pushing and installing updates.

Personally, I still haven't applied these updates on my computer with Windows 10 - I have paused updates and using gpupdate.msc (Group Policy) I have selected to delay/defer showing updates >> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/waas-wufb-group-policy

I have notified HP internally so that they double check and probably work with Microsoft.

Another solution reported working for many people is disabling App Readiness.

Right click the windows start button and click on "Run".

- in the Run box  type services.msc and click ok

- look for App Readiness in the list

- double-click it, and you'll have the Properties dialogue

- change Manual to Disabled and then OK

- reboot

App Readiness gets applications ready for first logon or when adding new apps. It has been part of Windows since Windows 8 and has caused  long startup problems sporadically on both.

If you have a problem installing a new app from the Windows Store you may have to re-enable it temporarily. You might also try re-enabling it after the next round of updates since it may resolve itself then.
