My HP Pavilion 14-ce0xxx drives me crazy ...
When it runs on battery and the screen blanks after some time, the internal HD (OS booted from NVME) spins down and is powered up after a few seconds. Then, it spins down again, gets waked up ... and so on. Every few seconds a spin down/spin up cycle.
It does not happen when the notebook runs on power.
No setting in the energy saving options seems to affect it. The disk is spun down directly after the screen blanks (1 minute), even if the disk spin down time in the energy savings option is not reached (5 minutes).
What could be responsible for this behaviour? What spins my disk down, and what wakes it up, and why do these two interfere each other?
Of course, I have the most recent firmware and OS patches and the HP support assistant does not offer new drivers to me, so I should be up-to-date.
Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that hard drive spins abnormally when running on battery power.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
- Are you using any tool to check the disk activity?
- What is the exact issue it is causing?
Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.
Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.
Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.
Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.
Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.
If the issue persists, then continue to the next tip.
On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.
Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.
From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.
Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.
From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.
Click on ‘Save changes’ button.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
