How to stop malware Microsoft edge from showing "top sites" on start menu?

Hi  @ham234234,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it can feel when your browser shows unwanted content like "Top sites" on the start menu it can look suspicious.
I’ll guide you through a few steps to help you disable it.
Also Could you please share your HP computer’s model number

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

1.Open Edge Settings

Microsoft Edge allows you to customize what appears on startup.

Launch Edge → Click three dots (⋮) → Settings

Select Start, home, and new tabs

Under When Edge starts, choose Open a specific page or pages

2.Disable Top Sites

This prevents 'Top sites' from showing on the new tab/start menu.

Settings → Start, home, and new tabs

Scroll to New tab page

Click Customize

Toggle off Top sites option

3.Clear Cached Data

Sometimes cached settings or cookies re-enable unwanted features.

Settings → Privacy, search, and services

Click Choose what to clear under Clear browsing data

Select Cached images and files + Cookies

Click Clear now

4.Check Extensions

Extensions can override your homepage or new tab settings.

Settings → Extensions

Review installed extensions

Remove any you don’t recognize or need

Restart Edge after removal

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
