HP EliteBook 860 16 inch G10 Notebook PC (6V8W8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The EliteBook 860 G10 has the SmartCard slot but HP did not offer an option to customize/configure one at purchase. I ordered the appropriate part from HP Parts along with the ribbon cable and installed it. However, the notebook still does not recognize the card reader. HP Parts sent a replacement card reader and ribbon cable just in case the first one was bad. However, it still does not recognize the card reader. I have downloaded the drivers (SP144405) and also looked in the BIOS for anywhere where it may need to be enabled. HP Tech Support was of no help unless I ship it off to them to look at. Anyone have any ideas?

I assume you already have the Service Manual:

I also assume that the header was there for attaching the Card Reader cable. The list of motherboards does not differentiate those with and without Card Reader support. Did you enable TPM in the BIOS?

To access TPM settings in Computer Setup:
1. Start Computer Setup. See Using Computer Setup on page 71.
2. Select Security, select TPM Embedded Security, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Yes, there was a header for the ribbon cable and installation was straightforward.

TPM appears to be enabled. I’m attaching a photo of that screen.

Yes it appears to be enabled. I'm as stumped as you are. All I can say is it is sometimes hard to get small ribbon cables aligned and properly inserted but I am sure you did that right, too.
