@Samdeezel and @Unix
I have cleared hundreds of 8440p's using this method.
This a link to one of the most recent ones that I have helped.

Hi -
I have an 8440p with the same bios password problem. I have run the USB tool to create an image on a SATA drive on another PC w/o a problem (as I am unable to change my boot order). I have connected it to the 8440p and booted up. I have tried Shotgun and 1st run. Each ends with a failure.
1st run:
Select "20" for a Probook 8440p
Results:
ALL CLEAR:-)
Failed to load defaults, error code: 89
Shotgun #1: "Press any key to continue"
Results:
Screen rapidly scrolls messages and reboots.
BIOS is locked still
Shotgun #2:
Results:
Press any key to continue"
Screen rapidly scrolls messages and reboots.
Selected "Second Run"
UTILITY TO RESET BIOS.
Error Code = 0x89
Any ideas?
Thanks!

To be honest. This querey was so long ago that I'd forgotten most of the details. I remember now that in the end, I'd chosen to leave well enough alone as I wasnot real sure the level of expertise of the fellow who had posted the potentil fix. Cn you confirm any information about the hpbr.zip package I've just downloaded from the link in the post?

Hi -
Thanks for your fast reply. I know this is an old thread, too. I have used this utility successfully on a different Elitebook - but it was some time ago. I was happy to see the 8440p was supported.
This time, I didnt have access to change the boot order. USB boot was not available. I used your files and have found others, too. I mucked around until I found the options to have USBTool create the image on a USB connected SATA HDD. I am able to boot that image on the HDD without any problem. I did save my bios info early on in the process, but it was lost when the drive image was created on the SATA drive with the USBTool. The info reported using the HPBR tool does show my serial number however.
Let me know what you need from me and I'll get it right away. Thanks very much!
Steve
