Dear All,
since a couple of days we have issues with external headsets or microphones (all vendors effected). The microphone from the external device is not working, it is detected in device manager and is available in a app like MS Teams but it is not working (e.g. Zoom show the error "there is something wrong with the mic"). Doesn't matter if connected via USB or Bluetooth. The speaker works fine also the internal mic from the laptop works.
It seems that only devices affected with the Intel Smart Sound Technology audio.
We didn't change anything and last updates are weeks ago. Uninstall latest updates / bios didn't help
We only fix the issue with a reinstall of whole Windows System but of course this is not a solution for us.
Windows 10 22H2
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

There's a new audio driver just published on web, you can try to install to check if this can fix your it.

Hi I had the same problem.... after 8 hours of digging I discoved the following:
- There ia a HP audio program that diverts the external mic input. Therefore the deviece is recognised but not audio goes through and apps like voice memo simply say "microphone not working". I confirmed that this was my issue when I did a fully offline windows 10 install. on the fresh install the mic worked perfectly, once I installed updates (which installs the hp audio progam) the problem recurred.
- my guess is that HP in their wisdom decided not to keep this program up to date with windows 10
- You can try to uninstall it, disable it, etc., but it keeps popping back up... I never found a way to do this... but there are many reddit threads (https://www.reddit.com/r/Hewlett_Packard/comments/m18ue7/remove_hp_audio_controls/).
In the end my only option was to upgrade to windows 11... and things just worked. I was resisting windows 11 due to the online version, but there is a way around that with rufus.
Come on HP if you won't let us remove bloatware at least support it for current opperating systems... what a waste of time/effort.

We seems to found a solution - There are 2 ways to fix this for us.
1. Remove these 5 realtek devices (include the driver)
Restart and it should work.
For some Laptops this wont work and we need to install the Intel driver and support assistant, update the drivers - + Install Realtek Audio-Win10_Win11-6.0.9456.1driver-
