Hello @3687 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

If the fan on your HP EliteBook 830 G5 is consistently loud, there are a few potential reasons and corresponding steps you can take to address the issue:

  1. Perform a System Restart:

    • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software-related issues that may be affecting fan speed.
  2. Update BIOS and Drivers:

    • Ensure that your laptop's BIOS and device drivers, particularly the chipset and thermal drivers, are up to date. You can find the latest updates on the HP Customer Support page.
  3. Check for Dust and Debris:

    • Dust accumulation in the cooling vents can often cause the fan to work harder. Cleaning the vents with compressed air can help improve airflow and reduce fan noise.
  4. Adjust Power Settings:

    • Modify your power settings to use balanced or power saver modes, which can help reduce system load and, consequently, fan activity.
  5. Examine Background Processes:

    • Check for applications or processes consuming high CPU resources using Task Manager. Close any unnecessary applications that might be running in the background.
  6. Use Cooling Pads:

    • Consider using a cooling pad to help dissipate heat more effectively.
  7. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

    • Use the built-in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to perform a system check to ensure there are no hardware issues causing the fan to run loudly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, or if the fan noise is accompanied by overheating, it might be prudent to consult with HP Support or have a professional technician inspect your device for any potential hardware faults
