Hello,

My brand new HP Elitebook’s fans are making loud noises (as if a plane is landing) when the cpu usage is between 10-20%.

I have tried setting the maximum processor state to 60% but to no avail.

The weird part is that when I tilt the laptop the the sound is much less. However, I hear the laptop fan always running even without running any programs.

I’d like to know whether this problem is normal or if the hardware is defected. I’ll just return the laptop if it is but I can’t be sure of it.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

I’m sorry if the problem is not clearly described. I’m not an expert on hardwares.

Hi,

Just like they told you in Reddit, the change in fan noise when tilted sounds to me like a bad fan.

In any case, looking at the Notebookcheck review of the unit, you will not get a silent laptop even if the fan is replaced.

Hi!

@Jupitero , this is indeed a noisy machine, but the "tilted" phenomenon has nothing to do with a bad fan -it has to do with the motion detector.

kuvaa, there was a lengthy discussion about the noise when the previous G9 model was introduced. I think that you might find the discussion helpful:
