Sub : Request for Assistance in Recovering BIOS Password for my HP EliteBook 840 G3 (SN 5CG80531SR).

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to report an unusual incident concerning my laptop and to seek your assistance. Before explaining the issue, I would like to outline the relevant facts:

  • I purchased the laptop (Refurbished/Preowned) online from xworkstations.com in June 2022.
  • The laptop was intended for my younger brother, Mr. Ashes Chakraborty, to whom I handed it over immediately. From the beginning, he has been using it. The operating system (Windows 10 Pro) was registered with Microsoft, and an Asset Tag was created in the BIOS. I personally set the BIOS Administrator Password at that time.
  • The laptop was originally equipped with 8GB DDR4 RAM, which my brother upgraded to 16GB about two years ago.
  • The laptop performed well until recently, when the back cover was found swollen. Upon inspection at a nearby service centre, it was discovered that the battery had swollen significantly, exerting pressure on the cover.
  • I ordered a genuine HP battery, which arrived within three days and was replaced at the service centre.
  • During the battery replacement, the technician removed the SSD (M.2/M.3 type) for data safety. Unfortunately, the SSD accidentally fell to the floor. After reinserting it, the system failed to boot, displaying a message that no boot drive was present.
  • I then ordered a new SSD of the same type, which the service centre installed. However, when attempting to reinstall the operating system from a USB flash drive, the system prompted for the BIOS password. At this point, I realized I had forgotten the password. Despite trying several possible combinations, I was unable to unlock the BIOS.

In light of the above, I kindly request your guidance in recovering the BIOS password or resetting the CMOS so that the system can be restored to working condition.  For your ready reference, few Snapshots of the System are provided herewith.

Thank you in advance for your attention and assistance.
