G3 G4 G5 Differences

We have company favourites worldwide and I want to know if we are getting better value for money by sticking with these favouries. My question... What is the difference between G3, G4 and G5?

Our favourites show an 820 G3 at a higher price than an 830 G5 (TouchScreen). What are the initial core differences?

Hi:

The G stands for generation, and the major difference between the models are the processors, chipsets, graphics and wireless they come with.

For example, the G3's come with Intel 6th gen core processors, the G4's come with 7th gen core processors and the G5's come with 8th gen core processors.

Why the G3 costs more than a G5 is beyond me. 

The only thing I can imagine why a G3 might be more, is because that was the last model that could run W7. 

The G4's and 5's can only run W10.  So if your company is still on W7, then you don't want notebooks that can't run it.

G5 (this is for the 840 G5).  I can't find a spec sheet on the 820 G5.   They may have discontinued the 820 in the G5 series.

Thanks for ther prompt response Paul. Very helpful indeed and does explain why we, as a company, still use G3s.  I believe we may start moving towards Win 10 in the near future!
