Try

  • go to AMD and download/Install Ryzen Driver for CPU (Recommended or Latest)
    • [Processors with graphics -> AMD Ryzen™ Processors -> AMD Ryzen™ 5 Mobile Processors with Radeon™ Graphics -> ...]
  • Powershell enter: powercfg -a
    • Check if Fast Startup is not active.
    • To disable Fast Startup -> Old Controll Panel -> Power Options -> System Settings -> Uncheck Turn on fast Startup

It looks like the problem is the Ryzen 5 sleep states (s0ix, very new low power state compared to S1-3) in this notebook.

@Amerco

Latest chipset driver from AMD is installed und updated a long time, doesn't help.

Fast Startup doesn't make sence too.

HP have to upload new driver or BIOS version for this problem.

I didn't got any answer from second level support of HP...

This is really frustrating, HP you got to fix this issue. This is just a broken laptop until this is fixed.

tried that. unfortunatly the problem persists.

I agree that it can be a problem regarding power management of the Ryzen and only HP can deliver the solution with an update.

Anyway, it's always good to try these things:

I. It can be a driver problem (yes even if you have them updated, try with this)

1. In the settings > windows update > pause updates for 1 week (to not let it update the drivers)

2. Download DDU here and latest AMD drivers here 5300U (Adrenalin 22.4.2)

3. Boot in safemode Microsoft guide (with or without internet doesn't matter)

4. Open DDU program, if asked to change settings, don't worry, the general settings are fine just press ok

5. Press "Clean and restart (highly recommended)"

6. After finishing and restarting, install the downloaded AMD drivers again

7. When everything finished, just Restart for safety

8. After signing in use Chrome or Edge (with enabled hardware acceleration) to play a youtube video

9. Now Close the lid for 10 seconds, open the lid again and start back the video

If computer still restarts/crash, try this:

II. It can be a problem related to the PCIe and power management

1. Turn off Link state power management

2. Turn it off for both plugged and on battery

3. Save everything and Check again reopening the lid and play a youtube video.

4. If it works basically with this setting off you will lose a little bit more battery during the sleep mode.

If computer restarts then the only solution is to factory reset.

This machine is sold also for Ubuntu and just FreeDOS, an installation of windows without before flashing an updated BIOS or without BIOS settings can create this problem.

I would just suggest to remove everything and start with a fresh install of Windows 11 (and after if you need to install also linux)

1. Backup what you need and make sure your BIOS is updated through Windows update (F.26 is the version right now)

2. Create a bootable USB with "Create Windows 11 installation media"  here

3. Check first the BIOS - Enter in BIOS - Security - make sure TPM device is AVAILABLE and TPM state is ENABLED

4. Clear also the TPM to be sure: Clear TPM Yes (if it gives some warning about reset, just say ok don't worry)

5. Save and exit and enter AGAIN in BIOS

6. Go in Boot and make sure Boot mode is UEFI and Secure Boot is ENABLED

7. Save and exit

8. On restart open the selection boot device options and select boot from USB stick

9. Proceed installing of Windows 11

10. DELETE ALL THE PARTITIONS of your SSD until you cannot delete anything more (Should remain just one unallocated partition basically)

11. Complete installation

12. Try again the youtube video with edge/chrome

If problem is not resolved there is absolutely no solution unless HP resolves it.

@DerToWa

Then Only HP can fix this by Firmware. If it is a Hardware Problem, then it somehow explains that they dont react.

Fast startup is used if you shutdown your system.

So it has a faster startup.

Close lid is to enter sleep mode there's only power functions you can adjust.

My device will be picked up today by UPS.

Before a few days I got a new Lenovo ideapad 3 with Ryzen 3 5300U.

After I clone my system 1:1 to the new Lenovo and change the manufacturer drivers
there are no crashes so far.

Finally!!! I figured out what is wrong with this laptop!

HP 255 G8 R5500U

Symptoms: Computer freezes/sudden restarts

After disabling virtualization in the bios issues is completely disappeared. It has been installed Docker for windows - so either Hyper-V or bios issue.  Bios version is 27

Anyway I wait for fix

@Sam_Lozo This is a very good point! I am working with Windows Subsystem for Linux. Did not seriously consider it could be a reason, might have given it a quick thought at some point. Anyway: Anyone else working with virtual machines, WSL, something similar? This may bring us one step closer to reproducibility which will be essential to fix the issue if (the cause of) it is not already known and some fix in the pipeline. Would really appreciate if some other members of this thread could post their situation regarding VMs and if so, what VMs just in case we should need to narrow it down

BTW it is not only one trouble.

1. When headphones is connected I hear annoying noise while vide/sound plays. After  disconnecting a  headphones noise disappears. Checked on many headphones. Also the noise disappears when the charging cable is unplugged.

2. Camera has resolution 640x480 max. May be driver issue. Please confirm somebodyimage_2022_05_16T16_31_27_876Z.png
