HP ProBook 440 G6 CPU fan speeds up and slows down every 2-3 seconds

Hello.

I'm facing with CPU fan issue. Fan is running constantly with some speed up and down even if temperature of CPU is about 40 degrees. Is that normal behavior?

Does anyone know is there any solution for solving that issue with new G6 generation?

Any help is really appreciated.

that is unusual behavior... if you can load Windows 10, that will tell for sure... i would update the bios first, since the fans are managed by the BIOS based on sensor readings on the motherboard

I've updated bios to the latest version via standard bios updating tool with LAN internet connection, but it didn't help.

Is there any way to notify HP team about the issue? Maybe it is already known and will be fixed in next bios update.

But I would like to be sure if they know about it and can confirm that this is really bios issue but not a hardware problem.

because you are running Linux, which is not officially a supported OS on the Probook, you will only be able to open a case if the problem happens when Windows is running and fully updated

... also, you do not mention what applications you are running and what is the configuration... your issue might be a normal operational design based on how busy the cpu is, for example, or the graphics... an underpowered device may easily have to weak up the fan speed to keep up with environmental demands

Well. Actually the issue is present even if I run bios configuration (not under any OS control). Which means that CPU utilization has to be near zero. But still it happens even without loading my Ubuntu OS. Also I investigated this issue while running Ubuntu and when CPU usage is extremely low and all temperatures are less than 40 degrees according to sensors metrics the issue is still present.

I can confirm this to be an issue in a very new HP Probook 440 G6 purchased a few days ago. The up and down is quite annoying in a quite environment and occurs in very low CPU usage scenarios and temperatures even less than 40C. This is happening on a Win10 1903 fresh install as well as in BIOS mode or booted with a different OS such as any usb-stick linux.

BIOS is the very latest Ver. 01.08.03. It has an Nvidia MX250 as well and 16GB RAM. Would be great this could be addressed in a similar BIOS update as posted earlier for the HP Probook 650.

I had the same issue on 3 different Probook 440 G6 notebooks that I tested. The seller was kind enough to let me replace them, once I was sure enough, that the problem persists.. However, after the third and last one I am not too optimistic, that it is a rare Problem with that model… I now try to get my money back and buy another laptop.
