Hi, we have multiple HP 450 G6 8265U laptops in our organization, most of them are being used for working in excel files and have excel performance issues.
I usually install the clean Windows and do not connect to internet untill I manually install all the drivers in correct order, chipset, mgmt engine, gpu, audio and so on.
Then I connect to internet and let the Windows Update do the job, it downloads additional software and driver updates. -
1. can this way of insatlling drivers cause performance issues? is this normal way of installing drivers? or you let the windows update do it alone - is that better or worse?
These 450 G6 models also has freezing issues, when idle. It happened to us and also others in the forum. this can also be improper driver installation (I think) issue or factory hardware fault.
We have problem with excel files, they are big files (around 25-80mb), excel "not responds" most times and have performance problems, we use C2R versions of 2019 versions and also used 2016 Standalone installer, both have problems, we have seen better performance, the office doesn't work as it shoiuld, there is some problem in office itselft, in system (caused by not very good driver installation I think), sometimes I also think that HP's software could be a problem.
second problem is that some laptops, that are working with excel files, become not responsive and in task managers there is "print driver host for applications" listing.
if I force close that process excel becomes responsive again. this happens to some laptops, this happens to some laptops, this is another problem.
what do you think and what do you recommend?

hello,
please follow the following steps
1) Run cmd console as administrator. Type command:
chkdsk /f c:
=> Answer questions with y (yes). This will check your file system at next reboot, that you will do with the next command.
shutdown /r /t 0
=> This will reboot your operation system. On reboot let windows check your harddisc, so please do not press any keys that will interrupt the start of the test.
Take a fresh coffee, this will take some time ... 🙂
2) Run cmd console as administrator. Type command:
sfc /SCANNOW
=> This will check integrity of your operating files, if some files are corrupt, they will be repaired.
Take another fresh coffee, this will take some time ... 🙂
3) Check what type of antivirus software your are running, sometime you have more than 1 realtime scanner accidently installed/activated
4) Of course, check your system for viruses/malware
5) Check if your operating system is up-to-date (windows updates including your office suite)
6) Turning off visual effects can help make Windows more responsive. To do this, open the Control Panel and, under Systems & Security, select System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left, then switch to the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box. Under Performance, click Settings. Then, on the Visual Effects tab, check the box for “Adjust for best performance” and click OK.
7) Reboot and test it ...
best regards
