I have an M1 Mac that I want to connect to two external displays. I could do this using the HP G3 and DisplayLink at work and wanted to replicate in my home office.
I could only buy refurbished G3s on Amazon, so went for the latest G5 assuming that it would be at least the same, if not better. I checked it supported two displays at least.
As per the post on the same issue: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-USB-C-Dock-G5-on-New-MacBook-with-M1-Chip-Minito...
it would appear that, without DisplayLink, this dock is actually a downgrade unless Apple support display port hubs in an update of Big Sur. Is there any chance of that happening or are dp hubs soon to be obsolete?

Hello
USB-C Dock G5 doesn't need DisplayLink, just need a USB-C port , on computer, supporting DisplayPort signals.
Yopu may need to update the USB-C Dock Firmware , but you need a Windows notebook.

Thank you, I did just try that but no luck. I think you call out the issue: a computer supporting [multiple] DisplayPort signals.
Both external monitors, on DP leads, are connected, but are only recognised by MacBooks as one external display.
Any other ideas gratefully received.
