Hello

I have noticed that the HP ProBook 440 G9 uses the M73472-005 battery while the HP ProBook 440 G8 uses M02027-005. These batteries are similar in size/dimensions, and I'm wondering if you can possibly upgrade the HP ProBook 440 g8 with an M73472-005 battery instead of an M02027-005 battery, for higher capacity. Will it physically fit?

additional information:

M73472-005 is 51.3Wh on 11.58V

M02027-005 is 45Wh on 11.4V

Thanks 🙂

Hello Eliotu4u334843.

This is a good question. I've also considered this possibility since I also own G8 laptops (640/650) which are pretty much identical to yours (fans, batteries, etc). If we take a look at the manuals for the 440G8 and 440G9, page 20 and 21 of the first one and page 23 of the latter are especially interesting. And that is because we learn that these two systems share the same fans and bottom covers when the small battery is installed, BUT the systems with the large battery seem to require that a DIFFERENT bottom cover AND fan is used. This listing on Amazon shows the large battery as compatible with the almost identical 445G8 (AMD) laptop, on Newegg they claim that the 51.3Wh battery will work for -pretty much- all G8 to G10 Probooks, but then there's this Amazon page where ONLY G9 and G10 Probooks are mentioned AND there is a warning at the bottom of the two batteries not being interchangeable.

To be honest I can't answer your question because the available information is not really conclusive. On the one hand it does seem that both batteries should be OK, but why does HP explicitly mention the need for different components when the larger battery is fitted. Online stores many times make mistakes. Personally I wouldn't take the risk and buy this for my G8 systems, these batteries -at least the original HP ones- are too expensive for the gamble.
