Hello everyone, a few days ago a folder C:\Temp was automatically created containing a single HmxLib.log file that updates every time the computer is turned on.

If I delete the file or the folder, it's created again the next time I log in.

The last lines are:

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmx_lib.cpp:123] [init_lib] [INFO] INIT LIB

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmx_lib.cpp:126] [init_lib] [INFO] [HMX LIB] DLL Version: 20251117_v4.1.0-Q

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmxLibPlatformInfoManager.cpp:51] [DetectPlatform] [INFO] Found sensor [0]: AmbientLight Color - Ambient light sensor (AMD Version : 9.11.0.104,P-ID=1106)

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmxLibPlatformInfoManager.cpp:51] [DetectPlatform] [INFO] Found sensor [1]: AMD Custom Light Sensor

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmxLibPlatformInfoManager.cpp:51] [DetectPlatform] [INFO] Found sensor [2]: AMD Virtual Sensor data device

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmx_lib.cpp:132] [init_lib] [INFO] ERROR: Unknown platform detected!

[2026-03-31 19:17:11] [HMX_LIB] [hmx_lib.cpp:133] [init_lib] [INFO] init_lib FAIL!!!

Everything on the computer seems to be working correctly and everything is up to date; it seems to be a driver error, but I haven't been able to find any information that solves it.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Alias-BCN,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the log file, don’t worry let me help you with this.

Thanks you for sharing those details with us. I completely understand how concerning it can be to see a mysterious log file appear and re-create itself after deletion, even when your system seems to be working fine.

Could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model ?
  • The version of Windows 11 you’re running (you can check by pressing Win + R, typing winver, and hitting Enter).
  • Whether you’ve recently updated or installed any drivers, BIOS updates, or HP Support Assistant packages.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Update drivers via HP Support Assistant
Open HP Support Assistant and check for updates, especially for chipset, sensor, and AMD drivers. This often resolves background library errors.
  2. Check Startup Programs and Services
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager → Startup tab. Look for any unusual entries related to AMD or sensor services. You can also run msconfig to review services.
  3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run a system test to ensure sensors and drivers are functioning properly.
  4. Clean Boot Test
Perform a clean boot (disable non-Microsoft services) to see if the log file still appears. This helps identify if a third-party driver or service is causing it.
  5. Check Event Viewer
Open Event Viewer (Win + X → Event Viewer) and look under Windows Logs → System/Application around the time of startup. This may give more clues about which driver is failing.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.

Hello,

The requested information is:

HP EliteBook 845 14 inch G11  Notebook PC AMD Ryzen 7 8840U w/Radeon 780M Graphics

Windows 11 Pro 25H2

BIOS W82 Ver. 01.07.01

According to HP pC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 3.1.1.0 all drivers are up to date, and according to the HP Image Assistant 5.3.5 analysis everything is in order and there are no recommendations or advice to take into account.

The only updates are those recommended by HP, including Poly Camera Pro.

I've already done many of the recommended steps, but I'll do them again following your instructions.

Thank you for your attention.
Regards.

This appears to be caused by the service "HP App Helper HSA Service"

Disable this service and the file is no longer created on start-up or login.

The executable associated with this service is: AppHelperCap.exe
