I have an Elitebook 840 G3, and I run Windows 11 Pro. I know that my laptop is not officially compatble with Windows 11, but it has worked fine until recently. After a windows update in the beginning 2025 the internal keyboard stopped working. External keyboard works fine.
I have updated the keyboard dHave also updated the Bios.
If I shur down the laptop bu pressing the on/off button until it stops, then the keyboard works fine after starting the laptop again.

If you RESTART from the start menu (not shutdown and turn on again) using the trackpad, the keyboard will work. This has been an ongoing issue with Windows 11 updates and this specific HP EliteBook 840 G3 model. Alternatively, you can use an external USB keyboard. Windows 10 and Ubuntu do not present this issue in case you wish to downgrade or upgrade, respectively.

Thanks for your reply.
I have rolled back to Windows 24H2 without any further updates. Then I stopped the automatic updates. Now the computer works fine.
I have identical problem with HP Probook 650.
I will definatelly try your solution. First I will clone the harddrive disk so i can easally go back if the problem remains.

Yes, restart the computer works.
The procedure to start the computer is then.
- start the computer
- klick on restart
- login.
I also tried to go back to Win24H2 (without any further updates). Then the computer works as normal.
So, if I go back to win 24H2 (without any further updates) and stop autmatic updates, it will work as normal.
Exactly the same thing happend to HP Probook 650.
The conlusion is that the problem is definitely related to some of the updates that came shortly after win24H2.
Could it be an intentional act to shut down computers that are not "officially compatible" with Windows 11?
