https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/HP-255-G8-restarts-after-it-was-set-to-sleep/td-p/8...

The same issue is being discussed here. And I have it too. Restarts after sleep on windows 10, windows 11, linux manjaro 21.3 and fedora linux 36 (with different  kernels). My laptop HP 255 G8 AMD Ryzen 5 5500U(45M81ES).

Yesterday I installed windows 10 cleanly again, installed all the updates and drivers from the Windows Update Center, but this time I did not install drivers from AMD software adrenalin edition. Today I've been experimenting all day, until there were no reboots. I will watch what happens next. My bios is f25, all bios settings are default, only tpm is off.

Maybe this is due to the amd power saving settings that are installed with the drivers, from the amd software adrenalin edition, but then why does this happen on linux? Or maybe the TPM module somehow affects the work. It remains only to observe and try to find out the cause yourself, while HP technical support does not answer anything.

Bunch of idiots at HP.

I contacted the online support and they kindly told me to **bleep** off because I'm not from the US and to take my laptop to nearest HP certified service center.

Which I already did, because two laptops I bought already had the same issue and I had to replace one after another.

Now I'm stuck with this piece of crap (so that's 3rd brand new HP laptop I tried buying) because what's the point anymore.

I can't take it in and leave it for diagnostics because I need the **bleep** thing.

The fact that the support service does not solve the problem is very frustrating, and this despite the fact that every day more and more people complain about this problem.

When setting up the computer, did you install drivers for AMD software adrenalin edition?

In the last 10 days I have installed windows 10, windows 11 and several linux distributions. All Linux distributions have a reboot after waking up from sleep. On Windows 10 and Windows 11, reboots disappeared after I stopped installing one driver from AMD software adrenalin edition 22.5.1. I do not remember the exact name of the driver, but it is responsible for the processor's power consumption mode. However, the fact that I was able to solve the problem on Windows does not solve the problem on Linux, and I want to use Linux as a second system.

Agreed, beyond frustrating.

Regarding the AMD adrenalin edition - as far as I know I haven't installed it on any of the devices that had and have the issue. Is that something I need to go out of my way and install - as in it's not part of the software that automatically installs with fresh copy of Windows 11?

Also, after the reboot after waking the device from sleep happens - have you encountered the issue that your SSD is not recognized? That was a big part of my problem as well, even now it sometimes happens when I get brave enough to close the lid on my laptop *sigh*

I've never had a problem with the ssd.

AMD adrenalin edition is the official AMD utility, it checks the hardware and installs all the necessary drivers for the chipset, GPU and CPU. But it is downloaded separately from the AMD website. After a clean installation of Windows 10 and Windows 11, some program from AMD is automatically downloaded during updates, but it did not always work, so I downloaded AMD adrenalin edition from the AMD website, and there is a problem that I described earlier.

Try downloading AMD adrenalin edition and choose manual installation with factory reset. With manual installation, you will be prompted to install 5 drivers. Do not install one of them, which is responsible for the power consumption of the processor, etc.

Maybe this will help somehow

Is this AMD adrenaline available regardless of the GPU? Mine is integrated, this seems geared more towards gaming stuff.

Regarding the SSD issue, this is what I've been seeing after laptop restarts, on all 3 devices I bought.

HP PCs - Hard disk 3F0 boot device not found error

Yes, AMD adrenaline available regardless of the GPU. It simply installs the most appropriate drivers for AMD products. I have the same laptop as you, with minimal differences, and I use AMD adrenaline primarily to update the video driver to the latest version.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot, it may actually solve another annoyance I have with my external monitor and weird scaling/resolution after powering the laptop on.

I havent seen anyone write about the problem with the ssd after such  reboots. Try asking a question in the next thread. I provided a link to it in my first post here.
