I got a new Macbook Pro with Sequoia and this problem happened. I fixed it by dealing with the refresh rate (60hz) and it hasn't happened again until now (it's been about 6 months). I've done nothing new to my computer and it just started again. I tried a new HDMI cable and it's still happening (although maybe a bit less?). I don't game, just use it as an external monitor. I started a new thread because all the other discussion seemed to be about hardware I don't have (i.e. Windows, gaming systems, etc.).

Hi @CJ0923

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I hope this helps.

If your HP monitor blinks on and off, especially after previously resolving the issue by adjusting the refresh rate, it can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps that could help resolve the issue:

Refresh Rate Adjustment:

  • Verify the refresh rate is set correctly (at 60Hz, as you mentioned it had previously resolved the issue).

Check Display Resolution:

  • Ensure the resolution settings are correct and match the capabilities of your monitor. Often, monitors have optimal resolutions that work best.

Test Different Ports:

  • If your monitor and MacBook Pro have different ports, such as USB-C, try using those instead of HDMI to see if the problem persists.

Inspect Cable Connections:

  • Although you have tried a new HDMI cable, double-check that the cable is securely connected and consider trying DisplayPort or USB-C if available.

Update Software:

  • Ensure that both your macOS and any drivers for the monitor are up-to-date. Check the HP website for the latest firmware or software updates for your specific monitor model.

Multiple Display Settings:

  • If you have multiple displays set up in System Preferences, ensure configurations are set correctly, and test with only the external monitor connected to isolate the issue.

Test on Another Computer:

  • Connect the monitor to another computer to determine if the issue is with the monitor or the MacBook Pro.

Energy Settings:

  • Check the energy saver settings on your MacBook Pro to ensure that they are not causing the monitor to blink due to power saving features.
Take care and have a good day.
