New ram causing NVMe to crash

  • Laptop: HP G9 250 the i3-1215U version

  • The Ram that i added: Crucial Apacer 8gb ddr4 3200mhz

I added 8gb of RAM and now when i turn on the laptop it crashes after 1 hour and sometimes it does not find the disk at all (but if i turn off then on it sometimes finds it), i haven't even touched the NVMe. I tested the RAM with PRIME 95, i also did the memtest86 and it passed and it works well. I don't know what to do. Could it be that i moved the NVMe when i was closing the laptop? How does that even happen as its screwed down. Also when i raise my laptop it crashes less.

I just opened the laptop today again and took the RAM that i added off and turned the laptop on and it still had NVMe problems.

I opened it up again to add the ram again and tried to take off the NVMe so that i can put it back in (and maybe it works) but couldn't because i think my screw is not small enough and didn't want to put to much pressure on it. Anyways i closed it and the issue presists.

I appreciate any help. Thank you ❤️help-with-nvme-v0-9xw6gedqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-a3bkqddqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-nwwrsedqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-p1pqfedqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-0eq8ncdqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-9qfusedqq84g1.pnghelp-with-nvme-v0-ztonnfdqq84g1.png

See if a firmware update for the SSD helps.

select 64bit windows and "expand all"

there are about 8 different SSD firmware update just for your laptop.

Use the WMIC command to obtain a drive's information.

That was just a guess I made that perhaps the SSD update would fix the problem.  I still suspect the memory is not the real problem.

I was unable to find a bios simulator for your laptop.  Look in the bios for "presence sensing" or "sudden motion sensors" or something like that.  Possibly your laptop has an accelerometer and when it detects motion it tries to protect the drive and it attempts to move the disk drive head to the parked position.  Since you have an SSD and not a mechanical drive, that will cause problems such as freezing the laptop for a few seconds or longer.  This is just a guess but I have actual seen this exact problem.

Does it flex when you hold it like this on?
If you hold it in both hands and flex it, does it freeze? That indicates a hardware problem.

See if there is an option in the bios to reset to factory.  Be aware that you will have to enter your password or respond using an authenticator since the keys will be reset.

Get a memory report with your original ram, the new ram and then both rams and see if there are significant differences.   Bring up the window CMD prompt and enter the first line to see what memory you have. The second line may give the maximum memory possible based on the chipset. The number of memory sockets limit what can be added.

wmic memorychip get devicelocator, capacity, speed, MemoryType, formfactor, partnumber, manufacturer

 wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx, MemoryDevices

Should look something like the following. To purchase identical memory search for the part number shown and look for the letters 'HP' on any label attached to the memory stick.
wmic-x299
The above values are in bytes. Divide by 1024 twice to get megabytes.
8589934592/(1024*1024) = 8192mb or 8gb

The output of maxcapacityEx is Kbytes, not bytes.

Note that some older systems do not recognize maxcapacityEx even when running latest Windows.
