hi all
I've recently upgraded the RAM on my HP Probook 450 G10 i3 1315u and it hasnt really increased the performance of my PC. I made sure to buy the correct RAM, being 3200MHZ 1x8 DDR4 but the increase in performance doesnt feel so great.
Has anyone seen this before? do I need to do anything in the bios? Also. I notice that CPU-Z doesnt pick up specifics of my RAM, such as if it's dual channel etc. Very strange.
Thanks !

Hello.
Memory size and other settings are always automatically configured in HP machines, no need to go into BIOS. Just make sure the computer sees the added memory in Windows Task Manager or BIOS. If the added memory module is not recognised, try installing it again.
Your 13th gen Intel CPU automatically utilises the dual channel feature even when the memory modules are of different sizes, although only for the portion of memory determined by the smallest module.
You can benchmark your memory performance with e.g. Aida64 or UserBenchmark software. (many other exist as well). Check the difference between 1 and 2 modules installed.
Adding extra RAM does not make the computer make faster per se, unless you were already memory constrained. Perhaps the bottleneck is the i3 CPU in your work profile? This is a modest CPU for mobile use and HP has limited its power usage to keep the fan noise down and to not deplete the battery quickly under heavy use.
You can try setting the CPU PL1 and PL2 settings with either the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility or with TPU Throttlestop. The PL1 and PL2 settings affect how much power (W) the CPU is allowed to use under sustained load and short bursts.

Good day!
I'd actually like to than you for your response, as your response has truly been the most useful response I've ever received on this forum! Many thanks!
Totally agree that the i3 is more than likely the bottleneck and I m certainly going to give the intel extreme utility a try. I'll let you know what happens after changing a setting here and there
Thanks again.
