Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have an HP EliteBook G3 with the following specifications:

  • Intel Core i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz, 64-bit operating system, Windows 11

  • Installed RAM: 32 GB

  • Graphics: 128 MB

  • Product ID: 00331-20090-00000-AA847

My question is very specific: Can I upgrade the RAM from 32 GB to 64 GB?
I would kindly like to receive an answer only to this specific question, and if possible, whether anyone has successfully tried upgrading to 64 GB.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Olek

Hi!

Paul, allow me to elaborate and give "specific" answers:

- Can I upgrade the RAM from 32 GB to 64 GB?

According to HP (manual p.2) only 8GB modules are officially supported. That means that you're already running an unsupported configuration.

According to Crucial, maximum RAM for this system is 32GB (2x16GB) as seen on its Upgrade page for the 840G3.

According to Kingston, maximum RAM is again 2x16GB as seen on the Compatible upgrades page.

Only the Munich-based CompuRAM, manufacturer and seller of memory modules, lists 32GB modules as guaranteed compatible with this system and assures that 64GB will work properly: Memory upgrades for EliteBook 840 G3

- I would kindly like to receive an answer only to this specific question, and if possible, whether anyone has successfully tried upgrading to 64 GB.

Until very recently 6th and 7th gen Intel -U laptops were known as 32GB max systems. In the never-ending quest for even more RAM, users have begun to test them with 32GB modules and they -for the most part- work. No one can guarantee the notebook you're holding in your lap will work in such a -completely unsupported- config, especially since it also depends upon the RAM modules you use. However, in the previous identical thread you started, I posted a link with a 840G3 sold online by a Polish company already upgraded to 64GB. I have to assume that this was a working system.....

You're very welcome.

I have never come across something like that happening.

Normally if the memory is not compatible, the notebook will not boot up or it will boot up and not run well.

I've never heard of the notebook being destroyed by installing a higher amount of memory than the specs indicate.

You have exceeded the Elitebook official limit of 16 GB already, and nothing bad happened.
