I have a screen scaling issue, when I start my laptop the screen is zoomed and can only reach a small part of the screen.
I can not enter the settings and probably need to to start in Safe mode but I cant get to start in safe mode.

I have tried pushing the esc button during startup or trying to shutdown several times but I can not get it in safe mood?

Please help!

Hi @Golden1111,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your screen is zoomed in and you’re unable to access settings or enter Safe Mode. We’ll help you through this.

To guide you with the exact steps, could you please share the full model number of your HP laptop/PC?

In the meantime, please try these basic steps:

1. Check the Zoom shortcut

  • Press Windows key + Esc (to exit Magnifier if it’s on)
  • Or try Windows key + (-) to zoom out

2. Try Safe Mode using Shift + Restart

  • Turn the laptop on
  • Once on the sign-in screen, press and hold Shift
  • Click the Power icon → Restart
  • This should take you to recovery options
  • Go to: Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart → Press 4 (Safe Mode)

3. Force Recovery Mode
If you can’t reach the sign-in screen:

  • Turn the laptop on and hold the power button to turn it off as soon as Windows starts loading
  • Repeat this 2–3 times
  • On the next start, it should open the Automatic Repair / Recovery screen

4. External display check (optional)

  • Connect to a monitor/TV via HDMI to see if the display looks normal there

Once you share the model number, we’ll provide more precise steps to fix the scaling issue quickly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
