HP EliteBook 830 G6 Notebook PC IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

Yesterday I updated my laptop with more RAM (Samsung) and SSD storage (ADATA).

After updating I see, that notebook was working very slow.
I opened task manager and see that CPU clock was 399Mhz for all cores.
I return default RAM and SSD, reinstalled Windows 10, updated Bios, but problem doesn't solve.

Notebook defaul specs:

i5 8350

8Gb Ram Samsung

256Gb Samsung

What can I do to fix this problem?

As a result, I gave the laptop to a service center and changed the power controller there and it worked fine

Hi EdvonIhn.

Your CPU has a TDP down of 800Mhz, therefore 400Mhz means that it is either "thermal" or "power" throttling. You can run portable program THROTTLESTOP to see what exactly is going on. Because this started after an attempted hardware upgrade, I would also check fan is still working and would try to reset BIOS settings to default.

BTW, this problem has already been reported on the THROTTLESTOP forums with the previous elitebook generation: "Elitebook 840 G5 throttling due to max tdp being extremely low".  The user was also having same 400Mhz frequency set as limit.

Hello TzortzisG

After a full inspection of the laptop, I noticed that the native battery stopped working.

Because of this, the laptop did not charge and apparently did not keep the frequency.

Tomorrow I will get a new battery and replace it. Coincidentally, of course, surprisingly, on the same day that the upgraded laptop battery died.

Yes, a faulty battery or power adapter (charger) is a common reason for "power" throttling of the cpu. Basically, the laptop notices that there is an electrical/power issue and forces the processor to throttle so as to use as little power as possible.

On a side note, it is a strange coincidence. Did you try reseating it again (the battery)? Try taking it out again and pressing the power button (without the charger) for a minute. Then put it back in.

I have two original chargers, including HP type c 65W, but the laptop does not charge with any charge.

Here are the photos of the battery test and the external condition of the battery.

Itried holding the power button for 1 minute with a disconnected battery, it did not help.

There have been misreportings of a blown-fuse error in the past. You could try the steps mentioned here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Laptop-battery-blown-fuse/td-p...

It does look like your battery is shot and you should replace it. The only thing that troubles me is the "coincidence" of it happening after fiddling with the laptop's innards for the upgrade...

Hello

I have got the same laptop G5 and it works fine.

I replaced battery from G5 to G6 and I still have the same problem. I turned off, hold power button for 60 seconds and plugged battery but it still have problem "Replace", "Blown Fuse".

But in G5 it works perfectly but there is not Battery test in bios.

 Hello Edvonlhn.

Check my previous post and open the link. Please follow the steps that basically uninstall-reinstall the windows driver for laptop batteries. Very often this works.

I have to say that I wasn't sure you needed a replacement battery. It's a good thing you have the G5 as well. There is a chance that something got shorted during the attempted hardware ugrade. Could you check if: when the laptop is without battery (completely removed) and gets power from the adapter... it still throttles the CPU to 0.4Ghz?

Hello

When I try to turn on laptop without battery and with adapter nothing happens.

And led light near adapter input doesn’t indicates not white nor yellow.

Now this is the situation: the G5 works fine (normal frequencies) with its own battery and with battery from the G6 and charges them.

The G6 does not starts without a battery with AC adapter and shows “blown fuse” on 2 batteries and does not charge any of them.

Can you please advise what should I do?
