HP 255 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC (78U76AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Received my new HP 255 G10 but noticed that touchpad was sticky, or when pressing it sticks to bottom but releases when press otherwhere, or doesn't react instantly. Quite annoying. I downloaded HP drivers and it got little better.

Welcome to HP Support Community, @trimoon

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your touchpad feels sticky, laggy, or unresponsive, follow the steps below in order:

1. Toggle the Touchpad On/Off

A quick reset can sometimes fix responsiveness issues.

Double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad to disable it.

Double-tap again to enable it.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary hardware or firmware glitches.

Turn off the laptop.

Disconnect the AC adapter.

Remove memory cards and unplug all external devices.

Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.

Reconnect the AC adapter and power on the laptop.

3. Update the Touchpad Driver

Ensure the system is using the latest Synaptics/ELAN driver.

Open Device Manager.

Expand Mice and other pointing devices.

Right-click the touchpad device → Update driver.

Select Search automatically for drivers.

4. Use HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can automatically update firmware and drivers.

Open HP Support Assistant (or download it from HP’s website).

Run Check for updates and messages.

Install any touchpad-related or system updates.

5. Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity

If the touchpad feels too stiff or too fast, adjust its sensitivity.

Go to Settings → Devices → Touchpad.

Adjust the Touchpad sensitivity level.

Test the touchpad response after changes.

6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

This confirms whether the issue is hardware-related.

Turn off the laptop.

Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc until the Startup Menu appears.

Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

Select Component Tests → Mouse/Touchpad.

Follow the on-screen steps.

7. Run Windows Update

Updates may contain touchpad fixes.

Search Check for updates in Windows.

Download and install all updates.

Restart the system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
