HP ZBook Studio x360 G5 Base Model Convertible Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all.

Just got my ZBook back from the IT department, and I have successfully paired my Active Pen. However, bringing it to the monitor results in nothing. No pointer shows up, no writing, nada! I am guessing there is a driver missing or something, but I have tried the drivers form the download page and no luck as of yet. Tried pairing another pen I know is working and same thing. Paired successfully and in range, but nothing happens.

Ideas?

Hello

the pen compatible with Zbook Studio X360 G5 is  4WW09AA.

is your pen like in the picture here : https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=4WW09AA&opt=&sel=ACC

bye

Yes, that's the one. And I can pair it and it shows as connected. But bringing it close to the screen or pressing the buttons does nothing. I am pretty sure I am missing something. Either a digitizer driver or a specific software or pen controller. Any ideas?

Hello

check in Device Manager if you see a Digitizer Device or a peripheral without driver.

I see a Wacom driver in the drive page for  this zbook.

Bye

The device was present, but in an error state. As much as I tried to reinstall the driver package, I was always getting the same issue. Finally I unpacked the driver files and tried to manually update the drivers. That worked. However, on reboot, problem remained.

It seems that on reboot, the system was defaulting to some Microsoft drivers. I uninstalled and deleted existing listed drivers, then after reboot, unpacked the HP drivers and manually installed them again using the device manager.

Since then, I have no longer had any issue, except for an annoying popup at each boot that says my pen has wandered off, though it's right next to the notebook. And I can't get the message to not show up.

Hello

so your IT department gave you an unit without checking the drivers status and misses the Wacom device issue.

About the message , I have no info to help you to avoid it.

bye

Unfortunately not the first time either. Trying to standardize all notebook and software leads to these issues often. My previous Elitebook Specter x360 had a similar issue with the pen, but back then it was all down to the wrong software version.

As for the message, thank anyway, and I'll try to find where it's coming from. I think it's related to the HP Pen Control software. Will report back if I find the culprit.

Again, thanks for taking the time to offer advice.
