HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0013dx

I have latest BIOS version. Trying to use 2 laptop extended monitors. Can connect 1 to thunderbolt and other to HDMI and they work - I would like to have both displays work via thunderbolt, which does not work. I am using a Wavelink thunderbolt 4 hub. It is my understanding that this should still work. For some reason, looks like a limitation with my laptop. Purchased this laptop in January 2019.

Hi @Zman15,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're trying to use two external monitors with your HP Spectre x360 15 via a Thunderbolt 3 port, and you're encountering issues. Here are a few things you might want to check.

  • Thunderbolt 3 Hub Compatibility: Ensure that the Wavelink Thunderbolt 4 hub you’re using is fully compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and supports dual 4K displays or whatever resolution your monitors are set to. Some hubs may have limitations or require specific configurations to support multiple displays.
  • Driver and Firmware Updates: While you mentioned you have the latest BIOS, also check for the latest drivers for Thunderbolt and graphics. Sometimes driver updates can resolve issues with multiple displays.
  • Thunderbolt Settings: Go to the Thunderbolt settings in your laptop’s BIOS or operating system. Ensure that the Thunderbolt port is set to support multiple displays and that any security or access control settings are not limiting the functionality.
  • Monitor Settings: Make sure that both monitors are configured correctly in the display settings on your laptop. Sometimes, monitors may need to be manually detected or enabled in the display settings.
  • Hub Configuration: Some Thunderbolt hubs have their own configuration software or settings. Check if there are any settings in the hub’s configuration utility that need to be adjusted to support multiple displays.
  • Cables and Connections: Ensure that the cables and connections between your monitors, hub, and laptop are secure and functioning correctly. Sometimes, faulty cables can cause detection issues.
  • Windows Display Settings: Go to Settings > System > Display and check if both monitors are detected there. You may need to manually select the “Extend these displays” option if the monitors are detected but not automatically extended.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank You for the reply;

Yes there is compatibility.

The Graphics drivers are updated - No downloadable Thunderbolt driver for win 11.

My laptop BIOS does not have anything with regards to thunderbolt. (which I find odd)

Monitors and cables are good.

The Wavlink WL-UDT49T is plug and Play - no drivers.

Windows settings doe not see 3rd display (using the Thunderbolt port - 3rd monitor good with HDMI)

With both extended monitors connected - One of them will come up on reboot - depends on which it sees first. (sometimes right monitor - sometimes Left monitor.

I am also seeing this message when starting laptop: Thunderbolt Software - This device may not work properly. I did update the thunderbolt software - no help.
