HP EliteDesk 800 35W G4 Desktop Mini PC

I’ve got an HP Elite Desk 800 G4 [Windows 11] which since June 11, 2025, has been without audio. None of the remedies suggested by Microsoft Windows worked for me. They seemed obsolete. Earlier today, I was so flustered over what I considered useless stalls used to compensate for a probable missing updated, remedial info, I thought about HP. I did everything but that. I searched, then inevitably stumbled across the ‘Official HP Drivers and Software Download’ website. Most importantly, as soon as I opened it, the first thing I read was ‘Let’s identify your product to get started.’ Sure enough, with my permission, I prompted it to do just that.

It wasn’t long after that when I was in an area of the HP with a vertical lineup of download options. The one I wanted was at the bottom for the audio. I hit the download button, and it took me to the ‘HP Support Assistant’ area to download the HP Support Assistant. I didn’t know that the HP Support Assistant is actually a sort of command center which allows you to navigate the download. It’s critical It has it’s own ‘control board’ which allow you to see everything you need to for the purpose.

It gets a bit tricky when after you’ve downloaded the HP Support Assistant, and see your audio signal throbbing as part of the audio test, but you don’t hear it. You’re supposed to. I had that challenge about three times. My first impression was that, it didn’t work [the download]. So, I told the HP Support Assistant I still couldn’t hear anything. In turn, it shared a list of six things which might be wrong. First on the list was ‘Open Sound settings,’ and the next was to check to see if I had the right output device selected.

Guess what? When I went to  Sound Settings, I noticed the feature was set at default for ‘Speakers.’ But my speakers still were ‘not speaking’ [as a figure of speech]. Absolutely nothing was heard. The feature below the speaker was for ‘Headphones.’ But when my speakers were down because of what we believe was the faulty Microsoft Update in June 2025, I plugged my ear pod into my Elite Desk 800 GH to see if by some means it would circumvent that audio disaster. Nothing happened. So not only was my dual speaker ‘blown out,’ but my ear pod as well. But then, I thought about ear pods also being mini speakers. So, out of desperation, I retrieved my ear pod, plugged it in, navigated back to the HP Support Assistant’s ‘command center,’  pressed the red test button it provided, and I literally heard the chimes, meaning, my ear pod was back in action.

Guess was else? My dual speaker has a dual cord extension: one for power at the back, and the other with a plug small enough to fit an iPhone at the front. However, also small enough to fit the front port of my Elite Desk 800 GH computer. Needless to say, my speakers are also back in the action. Of course, the reminder is that the feature which made it happen is designated for ‘HEADPHONES,’ not speakers.

So, if you have an HP Elite Desk 800 mini or other HP model, and you’re still having audio challenges from the June 2025 fallout, you might want to search:

  • Official Hp Drivers and Software Download.
  • Allow HP to identify your product to get started.
  • And take it from there.

This is only my own experience on how HP enable helped me to overcome more than a month’s worth of virtual silence, and should have no bearing on how others managed to eradicate their own pervasive audio silence.
