Hi,

I guess I did the partial CMOS clear (with the button). I tried to find something on doing a FULL CMOS CLEAR but could not find anything. Could explain?

 Thanks.

Hi,

OK, I went through the FULL CMOS RESET. This is a bit better as the monitor is getting a video signal but no BIOS message appears. So I guess I had to go through the Boot Block Recovery routine. When I get the 8 beeps with flashing red LED and fans at full speed, the light on the USB thumb drive flashes slowly than fast and slowly again. I left it there for an hour but no change. Any ideas?

 Thanks.

BIOS crisis recovery tool (for the z840 the 2017 file is the one you want, "FULLY" read the included docs)
HP provides a BIOS crisis recovery tool through the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3-in-1 USB key. This tool can
be used by HP authorized service providers to recover systems that have failed due to a corrupted BIOS. For
more information about using the 3-in-1 USB key for BIOS crisis recovery, go to http://www.hp.com/go/

Hi,

I followed the instructions, created the USB key, use the utility to copy the Bios file in the right folder. The instructions said to turn on the computer and the key would be read but that is not the case. So I booted in Bios boot recovery mode with the key inserted, got the 8 beeps and flashing red LED. The key is being read for a couple of minutes. After that the fans go full speed, the system stop reading the key and beeping 8 times with flashing LED again and again. Did I miss something?

 Thanks.

Forgot to mention that the BIOS version I’m using is 2.20, the last version that was installed was more recent. I don’t know if that matter.
