Z840

as above.

I already have a Z820 but found a local seller selling a highly spec Z840 but without the PSU.

Thank you.

no the power supplies are not interchangeable between models

while  both systems use the same physical sized power supplies

HP power supplies generally are very reliable. However, they can rarely go bad and the good news is that the ZX40 family of workstations is mature enough that many are being parted out. I have bought used HP power supplies off eBay for our enterprise over the years and never have had one arrive that was bad, and they all are still doing fine years later. So, I'd go to eBay, do what I did, and buy one of the higher 1125W ones for under 100.00 USD including shipping.

To find a great deal like you have locally for a Z840 is very nice... you provide the "shipping" which likely easily pays for your new used power supply. Don't try to jam in a non-Z840 power supply... these HP ones are designed to slip in and engage with interface pins built into the side of the case. Truly a plug and play experience the way HP engineered things. Here's a small sample from today:

Is this from experience in trying out yourself or perhaps an HP document? Thanks

Yes, from personal experience. Yes, I live in the US. Yes, DGroves is a highly experienced IT specialist whose HP experience is from a US enterprise much larger than ours.
