I have the Elitedesk 800 G3 the 65watt version, it has i5-7500. What i want to do is replace the i5-7500 with the lower wattage i5-7500T 35watt or i3-8100T 25 watt in order to achieve cooler operation temperature. I intend to use the mini desktop in a hotter climate. I know that the i5-7500T will be slower than what i currently have installed but my priority is a cooler operation temps. Please advice if that is achievable and will improve the system temperature.

before you go and spend time/money on this i recommend you visit the Intel site and compare the two cpu's the listed specs of both cpu's may surprise you
your not going to actually lower the system temps as the all of this models variants are capable of handling temps way higher
than you will reasonably encounter so save your money

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I used to own the same CPU (i5-7500) running on HP Small form factor Prodesk 600 G3 with temps 10-15 degree lower while idling due to a bigger case & Cooling system. The small form factor idling temperature 28-32 C goes to 45-55 with normal load while the mini idles 40-42 C goes to 48-55 with running a browser, 65-71 C with some photo editing. I'm moving to hotter climate soon and i think the temperatures will be even higher then. I know that the machine will run but with screaming fan and slower performance which will eventually shorten the life of the desktop and components.

sigh,.....the stated wattage for both cpu's is the MAX WATTAGE THAT CAN BE USED
i know of no one who runs their cpu at max wattage (100% load) on a continual basis
the stock cooling system will have no issues keeping the system within the system limits anywhere that a human is
again, save your money

I appreciate your reply and the links provided. This process of switching mentioned CPU's will not cost me anything ( sell used one buy a used replacement) and again i appreciate your advice in terms of cost but what I am trying to achieve is improved temperatures which will gain me better performance and longer life for this unit when used in hot climate. I know that the cooling system will adjust accordingly but there is a cost. I do some music production and recording and having the system in a cooler state ( quieter fan ) is important. We all know that running a system in warmer temps will effect the life span of such compact device. I know that most of the failures i have seen in the motherboards is caused by the higher operating temperature. I have used the HP SFF for years and had zero issues and never hear the fan running.

and i keep telling you (and providing the data) that replacing the cpu will NOT give you any meaningful reduction in the computer's internal temperature, or the temperature of the actual cpu
