Product: Z640 workstation
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Will  774172-001 memory work in the Z640?  It's  PC4-2133P ECC Reg 288Pin which appears to be the correct type of memory for the Z640 but the specs say it's for a proliant server.

The answer is yes, that it likely will, and I'd not hesitate to test that.  This particular memory is one step slower than the ZX40 family can run at max memory speed, assuming your processor(s) can support the fastest memory.  That gets you a step down in price.  It is all supply and demand..... if the retired server market had been loaded with 16GB sticks you'll find those are the best price.  If 8GB then those would be the best price.

 

If your processor(s) are rated faster they will auto-down regulate to this bit slower speed.  If you have other faster memory in place that you are adding to those faster sticks will auto-down regulate to this slower speed too.
