Z800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Are the drive caddies/trays for the Z840 the same as those for the Z800?

actually the z800 and the z840/820 drive caddies are ever so slightly different, they will interchange however as the basic dimensions are so close and i'm guessing this applies to the 600  620/640 systems

it appears the mfgr of the caddies changed during the z800/z800 lines and production tolerances appear to be the cause of tray swaps sometimes being a tight fit

if you have a caddy that is still hard to insert/remove after trying silicone on it you can take medium and then fine sandpaper to the guide rails to trim them down for a caddy that will easily slid in/out

Ours for the Z600 also work fine in the Z620 and Z640.... I'd say yes to your question.

A tiny tip.... those all are a bit sticky in their sliding in/out.  I use a small amount of silicon gel lubricant on a stripped down quality long q-tip and add that into the metal rails these slide into.  Then I remove any excess.  Made a huge difference in my utility workstations where I'm changing out different drives/SSDs frequently.  Not worth the trouble if you're leaving the same drives in place for years on end.

Thank you for the help and the tip.  Good idea on the silicon gel.

Thank you.  I especially appreciated the background and the suggestions for making them work.

Again, thanks.
