Will an Elitedesk 800 G4 or G5 Tower motherboard fit in the Elitedesk 800 G3 Tower case?

you can answer this yourself

1. is the back IO connectors the same between the different motherboards? years ago cases had removable backplates but nowadays OEM makers simply stamp out the necessary IO ports in the back of the case to check simply look at the back of each system via posts from people selling these systems on places like ebay amazon or even HP

G3

G4

2. power supplies, do both use the same type supply? the "G4" "G5" in the model series indicates a GENERATION change this can cover each generation in this series using incompatible  power supplies again checking eBay for a used power supply will show pictures and a description of the unit and sometimes list known systems it is compatible with

3. front IO does each system have the same front IO ports and location? the wiring/cables for these may differ between systems, again a visual check of sellers listings on eBay, amazon and so on will answer this

the answer to your question is no, based on the motherboard pictures the G3/G4 boards are completely different

last you would not save anything in this case money wise by doing a board swap as this system series is currently "G9" meaning the G4/G5 systems are quite cheap in the used markets as a complete bootable system
