no workstation/server that i've ever seen supported overclocking of any sort as doing so increases the potential for system instability which goes against the designated use of these systems where dependability/stability is one of the primary stated design goals
Load Reduced memory will usually have the "LR" designation in the part name,
normally near the end of the Dimm's part number,
or printed on the dimms label as "Load Reduced"
and yes most retail memory sellers do mention load reduced, either in the add or the module spec sheet
your 92 dollar amazon ram is generic ram which stands a good chance of working the your HP system, however the more expensive ram links you also provided are HP qualified modules guaranteed by HP to perform as spec'd
last before you buy your ddr5 ram make sure it matches the existing ram in speed, capacity, registered (or not), Ranks, and chip density and if Load Reduced for high capacity dimms
google memory ranks for more info
chip density refers to how the dimm modules memory chips are constructed a dimm can chave 4//6/16 memory chips on it and each chip configuration still be 16gb

Hi @G-Windoze
The manual indicates to use RDIMMs, LRDIMMs are used for higher memory density, RDIMMs are for higher speed and lower latency.

To the original poster,
Regarding your Z820 memory.... documentation from the 2011 or 2012 era refers to the version 1 of these workstations (Sandy Bridge processors). You likely know that there is a version 2 that can also run v2 Intel Xeon processors (Ivy Bridge) and thus advice from only the v1 workstation era is incomplete and can be wrong. Let me know by PM if you want more recent HP documentations regarding v2-appropriate memory (which is faster, to match the faster better v2 processors). A good number of v2 ZX20 workstations were sold by HP carrying only v1 processor(s) because those were significantly less expensive at the time. Upgrading such a workstation to faster v2 processors is easy and costs very little these days. But I digress...
I did some digging this morning and have you an answer on your Z6 G5 memory. The key is to find images of the memory as it comes from HP to the buyer... that has the Option P/N on the shipping bag that you'll also find in the Z6 G5 QuickSpecs document. From that if you get lucky you'll also see the HP Assembly P/N on the HP label on the front right hand side of the memory stick. From that you know you found the stuff HP ships, and on the front left hand side will be the OEM source label (which lets you match with the manufacturer's documentation). So far, I've found more SKHynix examples than the one Samsung. This is early... more will show up later. Attached below is your desired memory information, all from a single source:
Shipping bags for 3 separate 16GB sticks
Front of the SKHynix HP 16GB stick
Rear of the SKHynix stick
Note that the front right side HP label includes not only the Assembly P/N but also the Option P/N... I hope that HP keeps doing that... makes my searches easier. Please do me a favor and when you get your Z6 G5 workstation post a picture of the front of the single memory stick that it comes with. If that takes you two hours or less to do, then we're even.

Hi SDH. Thanks for all that good info. I'm going to keep the old Z820 in reserve, or in a closet. It is an "Intel Xeon E5 @ 2.90GHz Sandy Bridge-EP/EX 32nm Technology" w/ 16GB DDR3 800MHz memory. I'm going to get the Z4-G5, as probably my last computer, and I want a good one! I looked at Thinkstation P8 units, but couldn't get an optical drive. I'm going to get 2 Blu-ray drives, as we do a lot of personal video editing and "productions" of our travels.
That's great information on where to look for P/N and/or Option P/N for the memory. I'll check the Quick Specs, and if I'm not comfortable, I'll wait until I actually get the workstation delivered and check it out on the actual chip. And I'll make a note to send you a photo of it.
Cheers!

the lenovo p520 (not the p520c) workstation is a xenon only windows 7/10/11 compatible workstation comparable to the HP Z4 G4 model, they can be had used on ebay (and most likely amazon) turnkey with 900 watt pwr supply cpu (w-2135)/ram/HD or SSD minus video card for around 200/250.00 USD

I was going to tweak the Z6-G5 today and order it, coming in at just over $4800.00 Well, between Friday and today, the price jumped to just over $6900.00. Without warning, I think a President's sale ended, so I'll sit tight for a while, and be ready to jump when they hopefully decide to have another sale. This one was about 23% off regular pricing. I've looked at Dell and Lenovo, but HP could host two Blu-ray optical drives, and we do quite a bit of video editing and Blu-ray production. If I can catch an appropriate Dell or Lenovo on sale, I figure we can just use an external Blu-ray RW. Dell offers a 93.5mm slimline integrated optical drive, but it's only a DVD.

I cannot access my G-Windoze Community account, so I had to create a new one - G-Windoze1. I tried all of my HP-associated passwords (had many over the years), but nothing worked. When I use the Forgot Password link, it worked to let me create a new password, but when I logged on, it asked me to establish a screen name. When I entered G-Windoze, it said it was already being used!@?#!@.
So, to update: I was successful dealing with HP Bus. Sales and my Z6-G5, with 16GB will ship in 10 days or so. Then I'll inspect the memory stick and get either 3 more or 7 more to finish up the build.
I believe that I have one un-read PM in my old G-Windoze account. If still relevant, please send it to the "new" me! I will endeavor to get you a photo of the 16GB stick.
Thanks all...

Hi SDH. I got an email notice of a pm today, but I'm now at G-Windoze1 (I lost access to G-Windoze somehow). So couldn't read it. Anyway, I finally got my Z6-G5 workstation with a single 16GB stick (picture attached, as requested!). I then ordered and installed 4 SKhynix 16GB sticks from Server Supply 1 photo below), and I've booted it up. But have not ported my previous workstation over yet - too busy planning an upcoming trip.
However, when I boot up the new one, and click on MyHp on the task bar, the splash screen shows a battery icon with the caption "No battery." I checked the motherboard, and there is a battery there) I'll get with hp support when I get a chance!
