I don't have the HP Elitedesk yet, but plan to.  Need some info first.  Trying to pick out a suitable business Elitedesk results in frustration.  There are 10 dozen to choose from,  Which ones have TPM, security, etc that W11 needs to install?  I am aware of the bypass, and this might work now.  But Microsoft might pull the plug and require all this.  So as I am buying what Elitedesk do I buy?

What I want might not necessarily what I get.

128 gigs ram (may have to accept less due to price)

addon graphics card

lots of addon cards for usb-c for portable ssd

How can the computer run all this without getting hot?  Do they want us to browse while cooking our breakfast on the computer at the same time?  🙂

I love the concept of the Elite mini

From a budget perspective (?), you can buy an HP EliteDesk 800 65W G4 Desktop Mini PC inexpensively through eBay.

Just make sure it is fitted with an i5-8500, i5-8600 or i7-8700, as these 8th gen Intel processors are all W11 approved/compatible.

Memory: maximum: 2 x 16GB (32GB total) of DDR4 PC4-21300, Non-ECC, SODIMM, 2666 MHz, 260-pin RAM.
Has an M.2 PCIe NVMe Gen3 SSD slot and a SATA slot for a 2.5-inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) SSD

If you want a discrete graphics card, you will have to find a HP Mini 800 G4 that comes with one, as they may be hard to install after the fact.  The optional graphics card one would come with would be the AMD Radeon RX560 4 GB GDDR5.

Also, not all of them may come with Wi-Fi, so you need to make sure you get one that does, because finding the antenna wires after the fact will also be very difficult.

The downside to smaller PC's is you can't do much regarding upgrades, and the small case design restricts airflow.

Unless you are pressed for space, I would buy nothing less than the 800 G4 tower which will be much easier to add components to.

Thanks for your reply, sounds good but pricey.  I couldn't find a price anywhere on the link.  It comes with W10 but apparently is ready for W11.  I want a little computer due to size and weight.  My current is a Cooler Master Test Bench.  It is too bulky and heavy to carry safely.  Expecially up and down stairs.

How do I find out more about this model?

You're very welcome.

You'd have to look on eBay because HP no longer sells the 800 G4 DM new.

I can't find any that are listed for sale with the discrete AMD graphics.  Intel only.

Some are for parts only.

It doesn't look like you can get a decent model with Wi-Fi for less than $350.

NonSequitur777 Thanks, if the price isn't too much I might buy one like this on ebay as a "stopgap" until I can get my "last computer I will ever buy" like I said when I bought my current.

What can you tell me about the one you suggested. That is, how much would the I5 differ from the I7.

I have 32 gigs now in my current computer, I run a lot of Vmware virtual machine, and my computer struggles to keep up. Of course my physical install is on its last legs, that could be why.

Back in the day, I found a cheap computer on a special deal. And it was very low priced. Along with very low capabilities. After that I realized it wasn't so cheap as I had to buy another computer that could actually do the job.

If I don't (or can't with this model) get an add-on graphics card, does the onboard graphics work well? That's one of the reasons I got a new computer, Photoshop wouldn't work fully with integrated graphics.

Would you know offhand the weight of this model?

Thanks Paul, I think I would rather buy new, a model that HP still makes.  There are so many model names, differing by one letter or number or two, I don't know where to start.  Could you post a couple models that might be suitable for what I want, and that are not too heavy to carry?

I do not own one of those models, and if I were in the market for one, I would be getting an older model like an 800 G2 DM that has built in Wi-Fi. 

The rest of the specs would not matter to me, and I would use my usual W11 hardware check bypass method to upgrade to W11 like I have on 11 other HP and Dell business desktops and notebooks I own.

Paul - oh no!  Another decision.  I'll check out your preference, it is difficult to know what to choose.  As for W11 security, I know the install can be bypassed.  But would it be safe to run without TPM, secure boot, encryption, etc.  ?

Getting more hesitant.  I just don't want to get the wrong choice
