I want to connect my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE phone via USB to my HP Pro One to download pictures. When I plug the USB into my computer, it does not recognize my phone. Why?

do other usb devices work in the usb port? if so the problem is not with the computer but the phone or phone usb cable
when most modern phones are connected to a computer the phone will ask what do you want to do, file xfer, charging, or whatever, and ask if the selected setting should be used once or always
please recheck your phone and determine how it's configured
