Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone, I am writing about a problem that happened on a new HP Z1 G9 workstation.

On first boot I ran the BIOS update and later the initial Windows setup without any problems by simply adding an admin user and assigned the name to the device.

I then turned off the PC, added two WD Red 3.5-inch disks, turned on the PC, and after logging into Windows saw the disks correctly from Windows (I did not initialize them, I saw them from Disk Management).

Rebooting the PC, I then went into Bios to enable the RAID feature, saved and exited BIOS.

At this point, while the system was booting, the blue screen appeared with the error INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

I tried performing a system restore with F8 and choosing all possible restore configurations and none succeeded by aborting immediately.

Do you have any suggestions for getting the boot to run with the RAID configuration active?

Thank you.

i suspect that the newly created raid array when created is being placed first in the boot sequence before the existing non raid disk that is /was ypur current boot device

create the raid, reboot and re-enter the bios, and check the boot order you will need to make the non raid drive first in the boot order

on the other hand if you do want to boot from raid, create the array from the bios, power off then disconnect all storage devices except for the raid drives, boot and install windows once windows is installed power down and connect the other drives, reboot again and check bios that raid array is first in boot order if not make it so and save

you shold now be able to boot from the array and see all non data drives that have been formated, for non formatted drives used disk manager and  partition/format any raw drives

Thank you for the response.

The workstation provides an NVME disk with the operating system installed.

Unfortunately, I have already checked the boot order during my tests and the first device was always the NVME disk.

the HP restore image is not finding the raid array during the OS install which is why you get the boot device not found

again, disconnect any other storage device except for the raid drives during the OS install

to configure a array, enter the bios

Press Ctrl+l keys to navigate and select options.
NOTE: you must have more than one drive attached for this option to appear

Select  Create RAID Volume, then press Enter.

Enter the desired RAID volume name in the Name field, and then press Tab.

Select a level in the RAID Level field, and then press Tab.

If appropriate, select a size in the Stripe Size field, and then press Tab.

Enter the desired volume size in the Capacity field, and then press Tab.

Press Enter to initiate raid volume creation.

When prompted, press  Y  to acknowledge the warning message
and create the raid volume

Now, Select  Exit, and then press Enter.

Press Y when prompted to confirm raid configuration exit.

Hi DGrooves and thanks again.

There are new tests I have performed.

I disconnected all the Sata disks and left only the NVME disk with the operating system and the system goes to blue screen with error "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED".

If I reattach the 3.5" disks configured with the menu I access with Control-I in the Bios the error at boot is "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" even checking that the Boot order is correct (NVME disk first and RAID after).

Any restore operation I try to do with only the NVME disk connected to the system fails.

What could I try? I feel like I'm trapped. 😁😔

re download the HP restore image, set bios to factory defaults, reinstall os with only nvme drive attached

if still error test ram using a program like memtest86+
